new shock recommendations

I am looking to replace my oem shocks. I have a 2005 2wd excursion. my truck is not modified in any kind of way. I will be towing a travel trailer occasionally. looking for shocks that would provide the most comfortable ride, along with being suitable for occasional heavily loads.
thanks

I personally like the KYB Monomax for the price, ride, and longevity. I have 100K on a set but they probably should have been changed around 75-80K. Still rides ok, just has some bounce to it that I don't particularly care for. I'm putting longer travel springs on soon and will have to go to the Bilstein due to the longer travel, but folks like those too. And they aren't that much more expensive. I haven't seen any info on their longevity though.

I looked into the monomax shocks, but they are not availble for the rear in the 2wd model

I did Bilstein 5100s in front and 4600s in back last weekend and now it drives and handles like a brand new truck!

they make rancho 9000's for excursions, I like them because they are adjustable, I've had them on my last three trucks

Rockauto has a part number for the front, and I'd imagine the rears are the same as the 4WD model.

I have an 05 2wd also. I tried Rancho 9000s but the front end was too bouncy, they didn't control the ride very well. I switched to Bilstein 4600s all around and F350 front coils and I love the ride now. The Heavy Duty Bilsteins are not as stiff as the Sports I have had on my cars.
I got mine from www.shockwarehouse.com.

I have 3 excursions.

1 has Blistien 5100s
1 has the yellow Blistiens
1 has Gabriel shocks.

The excursion with the Gabriel shocks preforms the best is ride quality and control.

Let me just say the excursion with the 5100s is modified with code C dulley rear springs and the V code front springs. The 5100 work well but my Gabriel shocks on my other excursion are better all around.

'02 Limited, V10, stock suspension with Motorcraft shocks, 215k miles, 18" HD rims w/285/75/18's Mastercraft tires. (I bought the rims/tires as a set).

I tow 6-8klbs of enclosed trailer. 85 mph and this truck drives, handles great. I don't have the dreaded 'sway' or 'wander'. Guess i got lucky.

The wife's 2wd Excursion had the Gabriel shocks on it before I installed the Monroe units the last time because the back passenger side was damaged do to the shock mount...don't know why Ford mounted them this way. I really liked the Gabriel shocks but couldn't find them when it was time last year. She likes the Monroe Reflex and it is her vehicle but to me they aren't as firm. Where were you able to find the Gabriel shocks as I seem to recall they weren't available any more when I checked?
