My steering play is greater than 4" before the tires turn. I took my truck to the Ford dealership and they said they couldn't find a problem. I have excessive over-turning and I don't feel like I am in control. The truck requires constant correction in order to keep the vehicle in a straight line. I have an extended warranty from Ford which expires this year. I don't know what to do. I asked ford if they would please look at the steering box but they continue to say there is nothing wrong with the truck. The situation gets worse when I pull a 20K LB trailer. Any recommendations? I am not a mechanic. I am a Field Artilleryman and Retired military and I work as a government contractor.

 

You need to have someone turn your wheel back and forth for you while you lay on the ground and see what's going on. If you have that much play you should be able to see where it's at. Probably some in the box, and some in the tie rods if it's that excessive.

 

Take it to a different dealer, I dont see why they would say nothing is wrong when Ford pays them to fix the problem
