My steering got locked up to the left, when I tried to turn the wheel to the right I heard a crack and felt the steering wheel loose. My truck could not turn the wheels to the right, only to the left and the steering wheel stayed loose (free spinning). Any one with this problem? Truck is waiting on answers at the dealer since it is still under guarantee .
Welcome to FTE. It sounds like you broke your steering gear box. They always seem to fail where you can't make right turns, buy you can go left.
Good news with it still being under warranty. I'd have them check the front suspension & linkage while it's in there and make sure something else didn't cause the initial bind. Let us know what they find.
Steering box is what broke. I was told by the service manager that he gets most of these with trucks that have larger aftermarket tires because of the stronger tension put on these gear boxes. Problem is that this truck only has 15,000 miles on it. I hope it is only a fluke and not something I will have to be worring about sooooooo soon. Thanks for your input.
Larger tires have more surface area so they create more resistance and wear on the box / linkage. It's not a new issue and it affects more than just Ford. It's usually associated with big offroad tires, but your tires are pretty wide. They do look nice though.
