Have a 78 F150 351M 2 wheel drive. C6. My smog pump is now squealing at a volume and pitch that could shatter a goblet, when it decides to voice its opinion ! Was wondering if anyone has info. to track one down ? Is the little canister air filter cleanable or must it be replaced and is there a better filter to replace it with so more air gets to the cat so it better passes emissions Just to mention the air hose comes in on the side not the back of the smog pump.

if you have a newer cat you dont need it. disassemble and remove the fiberglass vanes/scrapers, pack bearings and re-assemble to essentially create an indler pulley. those vanes are whats making the noise
Have never pulled one apart . Fairly mechanical mind so can do it , do you have info on how to disassemble and are we talking repacking a Bering like a wheel one or is it special? Afterwards it will good for another life time lol
Memory is fuzzy on details
essentially the end comes off like a starter with a few long bolts. Remove rotor and vanes will probably fall out. Clean up and just push grease into the roller cage bearings. Sort of how you do spindle bearings in a 4x4 .

Smog pump is the same: 1974/79 F100/350 & Econoline all I-6 & V8 except: 1978/79 E250/350 460, 1979 E100/250 302.
The smog pump air cleaner filter is foam rubber, but Ford obsoleted it after a few years, saying it wasn't necessary. Take it out and toss it.
