all right

JeremyH, all right. I didn't mean to sound like a smart a.... Sory. I appreciate your knowledge and suggestions. Any way, I have Gibson Exhaust system, a K and N Air intake and soon the TBS. What else can I do to my truck. I am thinking headers. What is you opinion on that.

My opinion is that headers suck. I installed them once and they smelled like a sonofabiotch! Exhaust systems would be the only modification I would do...maybe a chip. Personally, I dont like the KN filters.....they allow too much crap through. With one installed I was having to clean my throttle body too often.....with a normal filter....it's hardly even dirty.

If you want get up and go.......regear. If that is to much $$, then dont waste it on those other snake oil items.

Have you added larger tires to the truck at all?? Why did you loose power all of the sudden?

As for the TBS.....I have installed one and wouldnt waste my money on another. No reason to take it out, unless I can find a buyer.

just got it

two weeks ago, the truck. I think I have 16 inch rims. Need to get out there and measure. It is a new truck from the lot. 2001. I didn't do anything to the tires, but they are bigger that stock, I know that. I looked into gearing, but would that destroy my towing capacity? or to what extent would that be effected? Those Microtuners look cool. It seems you can do a lot with them. Any recomendations on those?

Do headers stink like as in smell or stink in performance? Once again, I like the sound.

Gearing your truck lower will not destroy your towing capacity. It has nothing to do with your suspension. It will help you take off better while towing something behind you. It will put less wear and tear on your engine, transmission, and driveshaft. The only strain that will increase will be the axleshafts. Even at that, those axleshafts will be more than strong enough to not break unless you are excited about smoking your tires everywhere your go by dumping the clutch at every stop or u decide to put monster tires on it. I have never heard of headers smelling bad. The only way they could do that is painting them before installation and the paint burning off.

Headers and gears

so what do you recomend for gearing and headers. Do headers really add HP and Torque or just noise. I plan on adding Gibson.
headers and then I supose a microtuner is a must.

No.....the headers I added did not fit as well as stock. They leaked some and that caused the smell.

As for the lack of power..........any difference in tire diameter will cause a difference in power. If you increase the tire diameter, then the gears, which were installed by the factory and worked with that size, are no to high for the new tire size.

Really this have the most effect on power.....

What axles are in your truck? 8.8? Front?

The headers will add hp and sound. They will give your truck a deeper tone. The flow of the exhaust will have more flow coming out of the head instead of hittin the manifold and having to be redirected. If you add headers I would go with JBA headers. For the highest performance get the headers that have equal length runners.

I totally agree with Jeremy about loss of power. I have the 4.6 in mine. I have the 3.55:1 gears too so they don't help. This winter I am regearing to 4.10:1 ratio to get my power back. Check to see what yours is geared. You could go down one gear and be good. I am planning on pulling a trailer everyonce in a while so thats why I am goin to 4.10:1 .

A microtuner would be a good idea. but if you want a quick fix, get some dummy oxygen sensors. http://www.mileliminators.com/testimonials.html
