Hi,
I'm looking into a cold air intake for my 97 4.6 F-150. I was wondering about the MAF. Correct me if I'm wrong, but the MAF is the large cylinder that attatches to the air filter. If not a MAF, what is it. Also, if it is the MAF, how do I go about connecting an after market intake without the normal bolt on MAF. It seems like putting a cold air intake wont make a difference if I have to keep the huge MAF on the pipe. Thanks for any help you can give.
Chuck
I have a 02 F-150 5.4, but it should be the same basic setup. The MAF is inside the plastic housing for the filter, it is not the entire housing. You have to take that part out of the housing and reuse it with your aftermarket intake. Or you could buy a larger MAF along with your intake. The main difference with the stock intake and aftermarket intakes is that the pipe is larger and the curves are smoother. The stock intake is more of a muffler to keep engine noise down. Hope that helps.
