BrewCityBoost did some dyno runs with and without the plastic turbo rings in the charge pipes. You actually lose HP with them out. They are not silencer rings, they are vortex rings and do make a (small) difference.

best way to achieve this is to completely remove the entire intake and just have it wide open under the hood. You'll love to sound. Had a Lincoln with a 302 that I ran this way for a few days. Sounded great.
