Front diff help

2002 f150 lariat fx4 5.4 220,000 I put the truck on 4 jack stands because I thought something was wrong with the 4wd. The front passenger tire was ok, the front driver tire seemed to turn very slowly and then stopped. So only three wheels are spinning in 4L and 4H. The only thing I found was a thin black plastic hose coming from a reservoir on the back of the battery mount had been disconnected. Here are pics of the type of truck I have

Was the truck running? Sounds normal if the vacuum actuator is engaged.

yes the truck was running, and in 4L. Is it normal for it to only spin 3 wheels?

If you have a sticking brake caliper it will stop one wheel. It is a open differential so the wheel with the least resistance will spin. Check your brakes.

Yes like ford390gashog said, it's an open differential up front so if the brake is grabbing slightly more on one side then it's less likely to turn.

. . . what they said ^^^^^^

. . . and any bit of extra friction, could even be different ages of lubricant in CV joints etc.

You can check by (carefully and at low rotational speed) attempting to stop the spinning one to see how easy it is to overcome. It should be pretty easy.
