Since threads about Christianity stir up the pot real well I pose a question.
How many of you know what was the first miracle of Jesus according to the Bible? And part two what do you make of it?

Jewish custom is why he turned the water into wine. When a celebration comes forth wine is used. Now this is not the wine that we all think of today, because the Jews were fobidden against drunkeness. So the wine was actually fresh grape juice.
Another interesting point in this story is that Mary went to Jesus and addressed this problem to him. This implies that Jesus was throwing the party. Because Ancient Jewish custom states that the Head of the Household will address these issues.
I'm not religious by no means, but I think that when Jesus turned water into wine, it happened at a wedding he was invited to. He wasn't the host. Mary went to him only (I think) because he was the only one who could do anything about the wine shortage.
I think the significance is that he'll help you out when you're in a bind.
I think He was a guest too. The first pastor that I had told me it was grape juice and then we spent a whole afternoon looking up every instance in the Bible where the word wine is used. We were using a Strong's concordance that gives the original word in Hebrew, Aramic, Roman or whatever. Not one of those words excludes alcoholic beverage and only one use of the word in the New testament could have been non alcoholic, but it didn't apply to this passage. He was surprised. I have done this search again on my own and came up with the same conclusion.
The Bible definately warns against drunkenness, but nowhere does it say that total abstinence is the only accepted view. If Jesus made 180 gallons of wine at a party that had been going on for days already it would seem to indicate His position would be of some tolerance.
I agree with Vanhecht here and even Paul advised Timothy to take a little wine for his stomach.
Whistler, that is no big deal nowdays, women get impregnated everyday without intercourse. , but Mary's conception is still considered a miracle I guess.
As a Christian and a science buff I always have to wonder what is happening at the molecular level when these miracles occur. What would you see if you could watch it under a microscope?
I'm not talking about the miracles of modern science. It is possible to get pregant 'the old fashioned way' without having sex. Granted it is pretty rare, but it can and does happen.
At any rate, I take it I was wrong. Immaculate Conception was not the first miracle of Jesus--it was the first surrounding his personhood though. I guess I read too deep into your question.

I was going to respond to this, but it seems that willowbilly3 has already done my work for me.
Water into wine - His first "human" miracle.
That means we can't count all that He did before He was born, right?
To me it means that the Old Covenant is passed and the New Covenant now rules
Also - as an individual - My spirit has now been renewed with the Holy Spirit.
Also - my thoughts of the natural can now be made to include the supernatural (in the Holy sense) feel things that are supernatural, see things that are supernatural. (That does not mean I am a prime candidate for the nut house.)
Also it means that my crusty, worn, vile, wretched life has been replaced with an abundant life that is fresh and new every day.
He didn't comletely dissapear. It says that he preached in synogogues (I know that's miss-spelled) and worked as a carpenter before he started his 3 year ministry...I think.
First miracle on Earth - being born of a barren virgin mother.
I think it's a beautiful thing. God gave Mary a son while never having relations with her husband. That has to be his first miracle. How could you have a miracle on Earth if you weren't even born yet.
