Hello, everyone! I have been thinking about lowering my '64 f100 (2wd, short wheelbase, 292 y-block, and 3 speed on the column), but I am unsure the best way to do it. I have read lots about removing leafs or going with IFS. Neither of these seem like an ideal option for me. I want to go 3-4 inches lower all the way around. I'm not against removing leafs as long as I still have decent ride quality. I am hoping for 3 inches lower in the front and 4 in the back.
Can I just install drop shackles on all four leaf springs? If so, could I use drop shackles for a '65 f100 on both the front and rear?
Thanks in advance,
CJ

Reason: Additional information
Well after taking a much closer look at the front, drop shackles would not be possible. Although, I may be able to drill holes in the hangars to lower it a little, this may compromise the integrity of the hangars though. Should I just look into removing leafs? I would rather not spend more than $100 total to lower the truck.
Lowering a straight axle, $100 and ride quality do not belong in the same paragraph.
Agreed, but I was hoping that pulling a leaf or two out would at least soften things up.
The main thing I need to know now is if the rear shackles of a 65 f100 and a 64 f100 will match up. I know they made a lot of changes to the front end, but I haven't heard much about the rear.
Drop axle is probably your only viable option if you want to keep the front leaf springs.
You could relocate the axle to the top of the springs with a c-notch for the rear.
Simply removing leaf springs severely compromises ride quality.

Agreed. I had a '56 F-100 that someone had lowered by heating the front springs. That truck had no ride quality.

I have been looking for drop axles, but I haven’t really found anything available.
If $100 is the budget, then forget about it and leave it where it is. The only way that is possible is if you have the tools and skills to make everything yourself and you don't consider time as money.
If your rear springs have helpers, you can remove those with no affect on ride quality. That's about it.
If you can increase the budget a little, the next best thing, assuming your current springs are in good condition, is to take them to a spring shop and have them modified for a lower height. A big issue with lowering these even a little is the rear shocks. The mounting points will need to be revised to get a better angle so that the can function correctly after lowering.
This is my 63, the only mods to the front axle is a reverse eye leaf main spring, and 2 leafs removed from the rear. Rides just like factory, Now, how did I get it this low? Simple!!! 2" body drop.....

I don't think I've ever heard of someone doing a body drop on trucks like these. How difficult was it?
