So, i had a wonky fp gauge act up last week, at the start of a 300 mile 1 way trip. Nothing else to do but hope for the best and not "blow my top"..(thats a pun), we made it with no leak. Gauge pegged at 100+psi..Following day, removed sender since it was the easy route and installed a manual gauge in its spit. No pic to prove, but she read 60psi..So, i ordered up a new sender which it just arrived. Testing ohms on new vs old, here's the results Set on ohm reading Old sender probed. See the value? New sender probed
I went through 2 of them before I remote mounted it. No problems since.
When the first one went only had the gauges for about 1 1/2 yrs. Called Glow Shift and they sent me one free even though I was out of warranty. They recommended to mount it remotely if possible but if not at least go from a horizontal mount to vertical. The second one went about 6 months later even though I added a 90 fitting and mounted vertically.
The second one only cost about 15 bucks and I finally remote mounted it to the firewall. No more engine vibes killing the sender and still good 6 years later.
I gave up on glowshift fuel gauges. I went through a handful of sensors for it in a year under warranty and after the warranty was up guess what happned... you guess it, it went out again. They were great to deal with and even though the warranty was up they gave me a great deal on another brand new one. I never even put the new sensor in, I just disconnected the gauge and left it in. I figured if I needed to hook it up for diagnosis later down the road I at least had the parts... then sold the truck.
allaboutmpgs... I wish they would have suggested that to me!
As with allabout, i was budget shopping. Not stoked on the 7 color changes but the gauges would work. So, pulled trigger on the 1st rd of 3. Not long after install, the egt gauge/probe gave out. They sent me 1 within days of receiving mine. To this day, its still installed(8yrs and change). I acquired 7 more gauges along the way, 3 of which are the basic tinted series line. Them i dig.
Besides that egt issue, this fp sender IS the original one from 9/2010...had no problems paying the 21.xx std.
Heres how its mounted in the new truck but was same way in l99....not so long in distant future, itll have a fuelbowl delete/regulated system DIY w/fuellab regulator..but still needed sender Liquid filled for viwing pleasure
