Fuel pressure gauge questions

Hi,

I.m looking for a fuel pressure gauge. Hoping for some advice on what to buy or stay away from.

Why do I want one? I assume my pump that came on the truck is doing just fine. Is it? I have no clue and would like to know so I can replace it if needed.

This is the list of what I thing I want and need:

Need:
0-100 psi (I assume)
2-1/16 diameter
electronic for in cab use (2 spots open in quad pillar but only 1 is useable)
full sweep

Want:
white face
less than $240

I currently have an old autometer ford pyrometer with the white face from back around 2000. My boost gauge is an autometer phantom that matches nicely. I would like to match these somewhat if possible but the $240 for the autometer 5763 is NUTS! I looked at isspro but it seems all the white face gauges are black at night? I have also considered a mechanical gauge mounted outside on the cowl but don't really like that idea. I think I need full sweep to make it worth having so I can read it better. Or do I just hookup a temporary one go for a drive and remove it assuming everything seems fine.

Here is a picture of what they look like.

Thanks.

I have Autometer for all my gauges, I bought the fuel pressure gauge (Cobalt) from a seller that said it was almost new. Well, he lied, had a problem with it, Autometer said it was the sender, sent out a new one Free, awesome, nope not the problem. Autometer said send in the gauge, very easy just unplug it and away it went. I got a call 3 days later it was bad, but from 2004! I hate liars!!! Anyway, they offered me a brand new one COMPLETE for $120 shipped vs $240. I received the new one three days later...works great. As many of of us know, it's great Customer Service and Support that keeps a Customer when things go bad...Autometer kept a Customer!

I can second Autometer's customer service. When I bought my truck it had a bad pyrometer on it that couldn't be fixed. The new models have different connectors on them and I needed a whole new pyrometer. They gave me a good price on a new one and it has worked flawlessly ever since.

If it were me, I would sell both gauges to a couple of fellow FTEers, or locals on CL. I've made a few gauge choices I later regretted, but I made the decision to not let it trap me down the path of compromise. A few folks here are still enjoying the gauges I sold them for a reasonable price, and I used the funds to get the next round of gauges. I have two pyrometers and a 60 PSI boost gauge to go with my 38R. I then installed a switch to select between the boost sender and the fuel pressure sender. [LINK]

I'm not suggesting you do exactly what I did, I'm just throwing that out there to show you're not trapped yet - if you're open to alternatives. If you sell what you have, then buy a matching set of fuel pressure and Pyro - you can then focus on the next project of getting OBDII gauges to replace your lost boost gauge. Just a thought.

I remember reading about your switch setup. Very cool.

What gauges would you recommend? I really like what I have. Who makes a plain old gauge? White face with a light bulb lol.

From what I see in pictures all the isspro ev2 white face gauges turn black at night. Is that correct? If one stays white that would be perfect.

Glowshift no thanks.

FWIW, I have had GS for the last 5 years. I have had zero problems and they have good customer service. Maybe they were terrible before I was born, but they work just fine, look pretty good, and don't break the bank. I'm not seeing why everyone has such an issue with them. My current setup consists of GS Fuel Pressure, Pyro, and Oil Pressure gauges with an Edge Insight for the other parameters.

You know it, Barbeque Beef Slider.....the standard GS tint series are perfect. I went to them when running the wvo system. Dig them WAY more than the 7 color series, and again, a set of dual pyros, fp and a switch for the coolant/trans..would do just fine, clark

Amazon has one that meets all your requirements:

AutoMeter 4363-M Ultra-Lite Electric Fuel Pressure Gauge 2-1/16 in. Silver Dial Face Fluorescent Red Pointer White Incandescent Lighting Electric Digital Stepper Motor 0-7 BARS Ultra-Lite Electric Fuel Pressure Gauge
Amazon Amazon

I just installed one of these myself. Don't let the description of the face illumination put you off. The bulb used to illuminate the face is easily changed to whatever color you want.

EDIT: Oops, this one is the metric one. They are out of stock of the PSI version at the moment. Sorry.

You're asking a lot.
  • White face only
  • Electronic sender(?)
  • Fuel pressure PSI range for our truck (60 works great for stock)
  • Significantly under $240
  • 270 degree sweep(?)
When you change any one of the criteria above, the list of choices grows quick.

Yep looks like I'll probably get the isspro since they are around 150. I was just surprised nobody else makes what I want.

You may want 100. My FP sits at 70, but I have an upgraded spring.

You want 100, my Autometer sits at 68 after the Frx was installed. IMO it's not good for something to be maxed out when it doesn't have to be...
