E4OD shift failure advice
I am going to look at a 1995 f150 with 149K. They have it in a transmission shop and are offering it for sale with a bad transmission. The shop told them they found metal shavings in the pan and that it was probably just worn out. No idea if they even opened it. I will put my reader on it when I get there. In the meantime, they tell me it starts in second and has a delay going into third and does not go into fourth gear. That is all I know for now.
Without any more knowledge than the above does anyone have an idea what could cause these issues. Is there anything I should be aware of or check before I put the meter on it for codes? I realize this is vague but I would just like a possible heads up before I go there. I am assuming it has the E4OD but not sure on that. It has a 351W in it. Thanks Sandy

Links to a post over in the Powerstroke forum. There are a couple links in that post for a couple E4OD manuals. I didn't look at the manuals. If there is a road test in the manuals you can use it to determine a few fundamental failures. If you can drive the truck for a road test.
Figure the truck is worth half what they think it is worth and repairs will cost twice, or more, what they think it cost.
Transmission shops and AC shops attract a lot of crooks.
