I don't have any monitoring/instrumentation in my truck and am debating back and forth between a digital interface like this with a standard triple gauge a-pillar pod. Anybody have experience with both setups to help point me the right way? I like the relative simplicity of the insight but would like to hear some real-world feedback from people using it before deciding. Does it cause any hiccups or problems having that thing plugged into the truck's OBD port at all times? How easy was it to add the EGT or fuel pressure function? pretty slick and intuitive?
I have a CTS2, so far its worked wonderfully (1.5 Years).
Its very convienent to use and in my mind is better than gauges since you can data log with this.
To add the ability to read EGTs you need their "EGT add on kit" which is the probe and some add on wiring, took like 30 minutes to install.
To add other sensors is where it gets expensive. To add on a fuel pressure sensor its like 250$, so i bought a Glow Shift 2 pillar with fuel pressure and boost for 170$.
Eventually i will move everything over to the Edge because you can data log.
Definitely want to do the EGT kit but may hold off on the fuel pressure. I know with the insight unit itself you just plug it into the OBD port but how does the EGT add-on work? I know you have to drill and tap the probe into the driver's side manifold but then where does the other end go? Does it fish through the hole in the firewall and plug in somewhere else on the main wiring harness? I'm just trying to picture what it looks like because it is not super clear from looking at Riff-Raff's website what exactly is needed to get going. They sell the "EGT expansion" with and without the "starter kit", but does the unit itself come with the starter kit when you buy it? I like the idea of not having to spice into any of the truck's OEM wiring to get power for the analog gauges if I don't have to do that. Would prefer a less messy plug and play solution.
Also I kind of like this solution because it appears you can monitor turbo boost directly off the PCM right? I like this idea on the surface because I don't really want to delete the AIH and use the hole as a boost reference point like what seems to be the common practice with the analog boost gauge.

You WILL need the starter kit unless the seller youre buying the CTS from states the starter kit is included.
Drill and tap the manifold, install the EGT probe, fish the wire through the firewall, and plug it into the "daisy chain" system on the CTS
Very easy to add on sensors.
Boost can be read from the PCM.
I've had the CTS now for about 6 years and think its great! I can't think of any negatives that I've experienced with it. Very easy to use, looks good, the screen is customizable and everything is plug and play.
It is super easy to install. When plugging the sensors into the EAS system, it isn't really "wiring", you are straight up just plugging in and twisting a little know to hold in place and then zip tie them up out of the way under the dash.

James, sent you a PM a while ago. Would like to connect with you.
