I have a 2016 F250 XL 6.2L, and used a cluster from a 2016 F250 Lariat I got on eBay (part #FC3T10849GD). This shows as compatible on the Ford Parts web site, so I assume it comes down to a programming issue. One thing I noticed were a couple of DTCs for the IPC in Forscan:
Code: U0422 - Invalid Data Received From Body Control Module
Code: U0159 - Lost Communication With Parking Assist Control Module A.
Additional Fault Symptom:
- Invalid/Incompatible Configuration
Status:
- Previously Set DTC - Not Present at Time of Request
- Malfunction Indicator Lamp is Off for this DTC
I cannot find anything on which Forscan changes are needed for the Park Assist error (need to disable this), and not sure how to resolve the other. I tried importing the settings from my stock cluster, but that did not fix it. Has anyone attempted this, and found a solution or codes to update the configuration? The cluster resets itself every 10 seconds, but functions fine otherwise. I found this project on YouTube and thought I would give it a try.
Finally! I was able to do the swap. I tried playing around with the codes in Forscan with the original cluster I bought on eBay (FC3T10849GD), but it seemed futile. Whatever was forcing the reset seems to be beyond the programming realm. I did however make another attempt with a cluster from a 2012, and it worked! The part # was CC3T-10849-GC.
I put in the As Built data from my old cluster in Forscan, and all of the features were active (temp, compass, menus, etc.). I also sent to off to livinitup to have the mileage and hours reprogrammed, and should have it back tomorrow.
My guess is there are some compatibility issues with the features from the newer cluster, and my 2016 XL is generic enough to match the 2012.

I got a 2012 unit and it doesn't reboot like the 2014 verison did. Everything seems to work except for the compass. I hadn't moved the as-built settings so will try that.
Who is the " livinitup" source your referencing? I need to have the VIN,mileage, hours updated on my unit.

He will give you instructions on how to send it to him.
One thing I should add is that I lost the compass feature after adding the "as built" values. Not a big deal, but I thought it was working at first. Here is a picture of my finished product. I switched out the black bezel so it would match the interior better. Everything has been working great for over a week now!
This (livinitup) guy said he only dose 2017 and up clusters sending mine to Odometer solutions for $95.00. Had to use a 12 in my 14 f350 xl for it not to reset. Seems 13-16 with basic speedo have to use 11-12 cluster for the swap to work.
I also put a 12 in my 14 XLT. The 14 version just kept resetting. I went through eBay to get mine reset. Paid around $85 with shipping. No issues since. It’s been running like a champ.
Sorry for a reviving a long ago thread but i am looking to upgrade my 13 f250 XLT cluster. you noted a basic speedo, how would i know if mine has a basic speedo? I am trying to find if there is any way to determine if i should use a 2013 cluster or a 11-12. did your truck have a cd player and/or sync?

Get a 2011-2012 cluster and it will work in your truck, the only speedo differences are mph vs km/h. The radio doesn’t make a difference.

Agree with the previous post. The basic speedo was basic version of the cluster with just the blue/green led readout. probably the reason your wanting to upgrade the cluster to the version with the full color screen between the tach and speedometer.
Get a 2012-2011 version of the cluster. I tried a 2014 version in my 2014 XLT and it would power up and go through the ford splash screen and just reset and do it over and over. I put in a 2012 unit and it worked right off and I never had any other issues. Best I can tell is the it’s related to the way the 2013+ clusters communicates with the overall system.

The basic speedo is the one without the lcd display - my truck had the cd / sync radio switched to the clarion stock unit. You should use a 11-12 cluster unit.
