If it's easy to find another case I can see replacing it. But, what about cast iron repair plugs like they use on blocks? Can it be done to a trans case or too much load on it?

If I correctly understand where the crack is, it's only under load in Reverse. I would think plugs have some chance of fixing it in terms of loads (provided Reverse burnouts aren't planned), but it might still be a leaker.

You have the case prepped perfectly clean. A dab of JB weld will adhere wonderfully, and supposedly you're all done with it. Even better, do a V-cut along the crack first, and drill it's ends to stop the crack from going further.
