The problem is that the first threads are shot ! When i screw the fitting (with a new fiber gasket provided in the kit) i can't lock the fitting, it slips ... Seems that the orginal carb has a "crush washer" but i don't found it when removal, i found a red or black fiber gasket ...
I just tried an O ring which is narrower + some Loctite 577 (thred lock / sealing), i test today.
I had so much trouble with fuel leaking right there that I went with a different inlet filter and now run a short length of fuel hose between the inlet filter and the fuel diverter valve.
I felt like the original steel line was causing an “anti-tourque” on the fitting. Now with the rubber line I can ease into the inlet filter torque without having to fight the steel line.
To do this youll need need to make a hose barb for the fuel diverter valve and use a wix 33019 or NAPA 3019 inlet fuel filter.
Thanks, i just checked the result of my threaded sealant and no leakage ! But now i've put threaded sealant Loctite 577 https://www.henkel-adhesives.com/sg/en/produc t/thread-sealants/loctite_577.html on each end so i'll not remove the metal tube between carb inlet and fuel diverter. I removed the small screen in carb so i need to put another inline filter , i'll install it before the fuel diverter.
But what is this fuel diverter ? According to its aspect it returns to tanks (via the fuel diverter) the excess fuel and looks like a filter housing. When i write fuel diverter on google I don't find this part, rather the 6 ways fuel "diverter" which is on the frame rail. Is there a filter element inside this canister ?
I've (somewhere) the "diverter valve" but this "filter" has a return line to it i suppose. Here is a better picture which shows the return line. I bought the truck as is so i can't say it's original or not but i think it needs a single return line from carb to 6-port fuel selector valves. (seems that the date shwos a replacement in 2013)
The diverter is to prevent vapor lock in the fuel system. Nothing fancy inside there, just a calibrated orifice that lets a portion of the fuel go back to the tank. The fuel back at the tank is cooler than the fuel sitting in the lines. The return orifice keeps the fuel circulating in the fuel lines, keeping the fuel cooler and preventing vapor lock.
