Looks like a good way to test an engine that doesn't fit in a current gen Ranger body without showing anything to the public that matters.
No way! Look at the WB. That's a Bronco Chassis. It took Ford a long time to tool up for the 2nd gem Bronco. While it used F150 pieces it's frame and body were unique. Ford teased this in February when they said a "new" F150 would be unveiled in the Summer. I predict there will be a f150 based Bronco and a Ranger Bronco II.

That would be really cool, but I don't think there's even been rumors of this idea before now.

It might be cool but building a full size Bronco in the Ranger plant would make zero sense. We are a bit too close to the introduction of the 2021 Bronco for it to make any sense of such a change in direction.
A 12-foot wide full size Raptor-based Bronco would not make much sense for rock crawling and trails. It would be a cool desert racer, but the Raptor is already a weak vehicle for towing and such a short wheelbase would make it even worse. Looks like a good rich guy's toy though.
Why would it be out without a lick of camo? Look how hard they camo the modified Ranger and now this just has no bumpers on it but nothing else as far as any attempt to cover up what it is? Very strange.

Raptors aren't for towing, and Bronco's never where a good choice for towing by virtue of their design. Don't see many Jeeps towing either. But if you wanted a little more capacity with off road capability the Bronco nails it. You couldn't build a full sized Bronco on a Ranger line anymore than you build an f150 on the ranger line, but you build full sized Bronco's on the f150 line. You're right full sized trucks don't do well on narrow rocky switch backs, however running down a rough dirt road or back trail the Raptor has no match. If you want to tow get a superduty.

The wheelbase might be right, but pretty much everything else is wrong. They have told us very little about what is planned for the Bronco, but it was clear right from the start that it would share a chassis with the Ranger and be built in the same plant.
This is just a mule for some F150 variant, or perhaps an engine/transmission. There is a new F150 on the way, and multiple other mules have been seen for it ... including the one seen at the 1 minute mark right next the frankenRanger mule for the Bronco in this video from today ...
I presume that to be sarcasm. It isn't doing anything an Escape couldn't ...
- drive down a dirt road
- drive on a sandy road
- drive over some perfectly placed rock formations that require no wheel articulation
- fail to flex or articulate at all in an off camber climb and pick wheels up off the ground
Regarding the full size Bronco, I spoke with an employee at the Joe Machens Ford dealership in Jefferson City, MO about a year and a half ago who personally attended the annual dealers meeting that year. (I can't remember where he said that meeting was, but I think maybe Vegas?) Anyway, he said they talked about the new Bronco a lot, and what he was told was that they were going to initially offer two sizes, the "Baby Bronco", and a bigger Bronco. He said depending on sales, a couple years later they might release an even larger "Full Size" Bronco. This was before there was much talk about the Baby Bronco, so he appears to be correct about that. He also mentioned they talked about an electric "Mustang" SUV. Again, he was correct about that and this was way before the Mach-E was in the news. However, it was also before the Ranger was released, so any sales shortfalls with that I would think could change Ford's plans.
I was there to purchase a car lift from them (they were converting a shop they had across the street for their used car lot into more sales offices.) The guy I had to write the check to for the car lift I bought was the guy who told me all of this.
I've speculated much the same. We know the Bronco we're getting now is midsize and will share a platform with a Ranger, and the rugged looking crossover sharing a platform with the Escape will probably wear some kind of Bronco naming, but I'm sure with sedans out of the way Ford would certainly consider an F150 based full size Bronco if the midsize turns out to be a big success.
