I really, really, seriously doubt that the 351M and 400 would have different timing pointer locations. There may be different locations depending on application, The 351M and 400 share everything except the pistons, crankshaft, and flywheel drilling for the pressure plate.
nd rotate the engine by hand until the pointer is aimed at the desired amount of advance, then go up top and turn the distributor until the reluctor tooth is dead straight ahead of the pickup coil.

I've had three 351M vehicles (including the current one with 400 in it now). All the timing pointers were the same. And all were off at least 3 degrees before I corrected them.
