Engine code p0705, looking to buy

I have found a 2000 f-250 with the v10 that I'm very interested in buying. The current owner said the check engine light is on and throws a p0705 code. I know this is the transmission range sensor and can sometimes be a short somewhere. What is the likelihood that this is an problem with the transmission itself? Or is this code always either the range sensor or an electrical problem? Other than this, the truck is in great shape. I want to make sure this is a relatively simple fix before I commit to buy. Thanks for any help

That code means the PCM is reading an invalid combination of bits from the digital TR sensor. The problem is electrical and could be the sensor, the wiring/connectors, or the PCM.

projectSHO89,

Thanks for the reply. What little research I have done seemed to indicate that it would only be an electrical problem and not mechanical, but thanks for confirming that.
