Same here and I know it is a PITA
The owner of my parts truck could not remove it so he cut the dash apart to get it out.
Thing was I needed that dash as it had factory AC so I had to use part of my non-AC dash to fix it.
Did I say it was a PITA to get out / install?

I vaguely recall standing on my head using needle nose pliers in an attempt to unthread the cable from the lever. I also had my whole dash apart in order to repair the broken blend door hinge. I may have attacked it from above with the dash pad off and radio removed. At any rate, be careful because there are a lot of plastic mounting points that can crack if you are overzealous with them.
