hey guys,
i got the oil in the airbox problem, and im wondering if anyone can tell me the name or part number of the little airfilter on the side of the box?
i done get why its spitting oil into the airbox, the pcv is working and it running great, no blue smoke or anything.
Breather filter there are a couple of different types depending on the engine. Excessive blow-by could be a problem. Don't know what engine you have but, a 302 has another filter underneath the grommet where the PCV valve is at the back of the engine. (Might not be on a truck)
shouldnt be oil going into the air box if the PCV system is working correctly The end that connects to the air box should be a air inlet end. air travels from that end,to the valve cover, thru valve cover out the pcv and into the manifold. if oil is traveling up the tube your pcv is not working right and it is creating suction thru the air intake. The reverse of what should be happening. look for cracked lines from the pcv or worn out grommets in the valve cover not allowing a good seal.
your pcv may be working right.check the grommet and hose that connects to the air box , as it may be causing suction from that end back to the air box as air goes into the intake. that is the reverse of what you want. You want air flow FROM THE AIR BOX TO THE VALVE COVER on that portion. The PCV then creates the suction side which would then vent the vapor back to the intake
Forget the PCV right now. follow the line from the air box to the valve cover, that is where your issue would be if you are getting oil in the airbox.
Here is a simplified view of how a PCV system works. May not be your exact lay out but is representative of how the system works. Just follow the arrows and you will see that oil in an air box is not normal.
i check the pcv valve and it moves freely, and with the engine running it has good vacuum.
It shouldn't move freely. A good grommet should make it snug. The grommets fail regularly because of the heat build up. You can pull the valve out and shake it. You should hear a rattle. If mushy sounding or no noise replace the valve. Unless you have replaced the pcv recently, just replace it anyway and the grommet. Sandy
