I was picking up my truck from the dealer today (trailer hitch warranty replacement due to wallowing hitch pin hole) and wandered over to the new truck row. I was surprised to see an 85k MSRP for a 250 srw limited, plus 3k of BS (paint treatment etc). I was at 72k (paid much less) for my 2017 totally loaded Lariat. What happened over the last two years. I know it’s apples and oranges but still, 85k?

Comparing Limited to your Lariat is apples to oranges. With that said I picked up a 19' Lariat Ultimate for much less. 72 sticker, 61k plus taxes out the door. The truth is that they are only pricing them that way because people are buying them.

if you take time to build these trucks online you can truly see where the charges come from. There is a ton of inflation built into the higher trims in my opinion. I shopped around for a year and ended up driving all day to buy my truck out of state. Dealers are counting on you strolling in and using 0% finance to sweet talk people into buying these overly priced trucks.
Not sure it’s apples to oranges. Only differences are cosmetic. Same frame. Same body. Same bed. Same about everything except seat leather, dash accents, grille, and wheels. I know some like paying more for a pig with a dress instead of mud, but there is nothing IMO that warrants $10-20k more for a Limited. It’s purely a trim that makes Ford a lot of profit. If Limiteds had FULL leather on ALL surfaces, real teak trim, real stainless trim, a bunch of real material differences, air ride suspension, etc., I’m not sure it’d be worth that lettuce. It’s still good old plastic trim with a veneer overlay at best.

From a marketing perspective it is apples to oranges... The price that any item sales at isn't indicative of the cost, it is sold at a price that the market will bear. The Limited, King Ranch, Platinum trims aren't priced at what they are because the cost is exponentially more, they are priced in the manner they are because consumers will pay that to say they drive a Limited etc.

I errantly assumed A to O comparison meant the actual truck, not the marketing. I agree entirely with the marketing comparison. If you build it...
I’m amazed at who buys these trucks. Watching some of these guys get out of these trucks at the Depot just has me baffled. Gotta believe most run in debt, or write it off as a business expense. It’s more interesting to see some of these young kids showing off their $85k truck with $25k in mods in front of a four car garage finished off nicer than my house, with a six big-priced fun toys, two other $90k+ sports cars jammed in, and the $250k boat out front, I just can’t figure it out.
You should see the douches on the FB pages that laugh at the guys buying Lariats and XLTs, "Ewwww, why didn't you get a Platty"...it makes me laugh, they blew $20-30k pretty much so they can just make that post. There's absolutely zero capability difference between a $50k 6.7L 4x4 XL Crewcab and a $90k 6.7L 4x4 Limited. $40k for some farkles. I get it, most of us fall somewhere in between that. But damn do you pay Ford a lot of cheddar for not a lot of return on investment. IMO, a $55k XLT with some aftermarket leather, Carli suspension, aftermarket stereo, and some vinyl wrapped bumpers is 100x more capable/better performing than a stock Platinum (although I'm obviously biased to what I bought ). And you've got $20-30k to put in the S&P500.
I can afford any truck but i custom ordered a Lariat Ultimate. I like the upgraded interiors of the Platinum, King Ranch and Limiteds but my primary 2 needs were minimum 3500lbs of Payload and didn’t want a sunroof.
I tow a 14000 lb 5th wheel so I needed at least 3500 lbs of payload.
After having multiple skin cancers cut off my head and face, you can keep the sunroof.
Funny you say that Tricon. I dumped my 2017 Lariat F250 so I could get my son a used truck. He’s a great young man who never has been trouble. I wanted to have that fun connection with him. Then, kids jousted him with “Daddy’s Money” all the time after he drove it to school. Even markered that on his truck, yet these high school brats run 3-4 year old diesel trucks, some Platinum trucks, on 35’s with lifts and wheels I can’t see, and say they bought them. Yeah, where’s daddy’s money? Two kids rolled their trucks, and a week later had nicer rigs than before.
My current truck is an XLT. It’s loaded, but I miss nothing my last Lariat and King Ranches had. I’ve been loooking again, and really think an XLT would be my bet again. For a pittance, I might do some katskinz, but I’ve gotta get the oil burning issue taken care of first.

Jealousy is a hell of a drug. I get it, everyone can spend their money however they see fit. But stay in your lane. Usually when I see a jacked up Platinum I just think to myself, man, what a waste of money. You could be retiring earlier, or traveling the world....but, I also get that some people just have retarded amounts of money and 100k on a truck just isn't something to worry about. It just gets me when a guy making $60k/yr buys a Platinum and thinks he's better than someone else. Ehhhh, humans are humans right?
TooHigh: I am seeing the same thing on my hitch, 9k miles of towing an 8k lbs trailer. Can I ask what they are doing under warranty for that? Replacing with the same hitch?

If you're in SoCal I have a stock hitch sitting in my garage. Looks brand new.
They price the Limiteds up to reduce the production numbers.
I wasnt a fan of the wheels, grill, or interior (as I just sold a vehicle with a similar color interior). The platty I optioned was about $4500 less than an exact optioned Limited.
