I normally don't care too much about MPG because I know I am driving a heavy brick. I use to get 13.2 or so with mostly highway miles. I switched to a bigger tire and my MPGs went down as expected. I am now at 12.6 or so. I read a bit in here about the "Lie-o-Meter" so I thought I would do a hand calculation and see how far it is off. I got 10.5 instead of the 12.6. I thought that is way off. I reset the Trip A and tried again and got the same results. But the Trip A has how many gallons you used. Some how I put more gallons in per the pump than what the truck said I used. I thought that is strange to be off by 2 gallons or so. I think the truck is setup to hold so much gas. If you don't pump any more than after the pump shuts off, I think the Lie-O-Meter is correct. If you pump more in to round up to the nearest dollar, it maybe off.
I replaced the stock 1000 AFE bias with 973 based on a ratio derived from a 700+ mile run last fall. We have a trip coming up next week, so I’ll do a calc vs. display comparison when we return and then see if a fine tune is needed.
I haven't posted on this because I wanted to check my odometer first because my speedo shows 1 to 1.5 high. We moved today and I used a app on my phone to track my mileage and the truck said 148.8 and the phone had the same exact mileage so now I can say my mileage computer is .1 to .15 high the few times I've checked so I can't say mine isn't a lie-o-meter in fact I would consider it pretty close. Now if someone could tell me how to make the speedometer closer to true speed, it's off the same no matter what speed you go so the needle is in the wrong place.
My lie-o-meter is always off, Highly off.. I punch my gas usage into Fuelly and let it tell me what the averages are across all my fuel trips.. truck tells me 8.4 constantly.. but fuelly tells me a much different story. check it out. link -> Fuelly

Thanks again,

The 973 AFE bias value seems to be working well for our truck. Over a 659 mile section of last week’s trip, the difference between the lie-o-meter and a hand calculation was 0.1 mpg.
Looking at the instructions it appears that this is only for the trucks with the expanded console, do you know if you can do this with the basic console?

I set mine a bit lower...currently running out the first tank to see how it works out. Thanks to all who contributed to this thread!
On a side note, I have a buddy who just leased a new Ram 1500 with a 5.7 10 spd, and is bragging up it's 24+ highway mpg...claiming his lie-o-meter is spot on. This buddy never misses a chance to stretch the truth in the interest of telling a good story. The next time I know that we're going to be in my truck together, I'm going to tweak my setting in the other direction...maybe 1400-1600 range...and let him marvel at the 6.2's "economy".
