Anyone have an opinion on what wax/sealant product offers the best combination of protection and ease of use? I just dont have the time or desire to put 2 coats of carnuba wax on my wifes explorer but I feel like I should do something..something that won't take all day that is. Of course I dont want to waste time with some useless product either..
I like Mothers products. I use thier pure carnauba liquid wax on my mustang for a great shine with super smooth finish. I use the paste carnauba cleaner wax on my truck because it lasts longer and is more durable. I have been wanting to try the 3 stage stuff on the truck, but it took more than an hour per stage on the stang, and that was with liquid wax at the end, the truck will take significantly longer!
For my daily drivers I've grown really fond of McGuiars Polymer Sealant. Not cheap but for me it lasts an honest six months.
A really great carnuba paste wax is Blitz wax. Is use this on my Porsche as the shine is much better than any polymer based wax. It goes on easy, doesn't chalk and last 2-3 months.
I did the three stage and it does make you ride look a lot better, but it takes forever. I use mother’s 100% carnauba wax ever 3-4 months and make quick details with racers glaze. Racers is by far the easies application that I have ever used and it dries very quickly. The more work you put into it the better it will look.
You may also want to use an orbital buffer, but be very careful and work your way up in power/RPM’s or you can and will burn the paint.
How about clearcoat finishes? I know some systems are kind of a rubbing compound. I know Mothers or McGuires are supposed to be woth the extra $$s but is there a special type of those brands to look for, and what is the procedure to keep the finish like new? The Jersey salt air is murder on cars here and if my '04 F150 EVER comes in, I'd like to keep it looking new!!
I use Liquid Glass. Buy it at Pep Boys. A little pricey at 17.99 a can, but is very easy to use. You can apply it to your whole truck before wiping off, it won't smear or streak, and gives an unbelieveable shine. supposed to last up to 6 months.
As an added bonus, it doesn't leave a white residue on plastic trim if you happen to get it on the plastic. That in itself, is worth using it, IMHO.
Give it a try. One can will do your truck about 6 times.
