i use mcquairs car shampoo, then mother's clay bar treatment to clear small bits off the paint, then Zymol polish (available from walmart), followed up by mequiars's gold class wax. If you want your ride to really shine, the zymol makes all the difference.
I have tried every combination out there to remove the white wax residue from black plastic trim. Here's what works best for me.
Start with Turtle wax bug and tar remover. Rub on and wait a few minutes, then rub off the excess. This seems to loosen the wax a bit.
Then mix a teaspoon of Dawn Dishwashing liquid in a cup of warm water, and scrub with a soft toothbrush until the wax is gone.
Finish with a coat of 3M 303 protectant, and your plastic mirrors will look like new.
On my last two trucks I have used 5 star shine http://www.5starshine.com/order.html and it is wonderful. It takes a couple of hours to put on but it lasts for years. It cost about $80 and comes in two small bottles, one to wash the truck and let it dry to a powder white then hose it off and apply the product. No wax necessary for 5 years. I have over 2 years on one truck and go through the car wash often with out wax and still get compliments on the shine............
