A friend has his wife's '79 short wide F -150 4x4 Ranger , midnight Blue with the original aluminum wheels . 400 automatic. it is pretty straight and like most rigs around here totally rust free. tailgate is nice, bumpers and grill ok but not great. it runs and drives but it's more what I'd call a project than a driver.
He'd like to get 3k for it. I don't need it at all but short wide 4x4's are getting harder to find. is this a decent buy or should I let him advertise it ?
If it's a good sound driver , kinda low for four corners area imo.
Do a CL search from different parts of your state and get a feel for the right pricing.
I'm always watching. 73-76 high boys are mainly what I watch for but I like SWB 4x4's. I just don't see many come along and when I do they're usually either junk or really nice. it's been a long time since I've seen one in this category.
if I was dying for a project it would be a no brainer for me. that's just not really where I'm at.
We got 18 inches of snow in the last 24 hours so when it melts a little I'll take a better look at it.
I can only find one other SWB for sale and it doesn't run. I don't think it has any rust and it's missing a few things. it's been for sale for 3k for a while now.
for 5-7k you can buy a nice long bed 4x4 . projects are in the 2-4k range. I know a SWB is a premium but I don't know how much.

Key words I see..."A friend", "like to get 3 K". So I wonder is that amount for the truck from anybody or just that amount from you? How good is the friendship? $2500 ruin a friendship? More key words...."pretty straight, totally rust free". Have you seen any others as nice for 3k in your area?
Grills and bumpers are an easy replacement, and a point to bring up come "lets get serious about what and what you will take you want for it". It sounds like a good deal IMO.
If the truck is really "rust free" then it's well worth $3k. These truck only continue to go up in value every year. Now, if it has the original paint, then it's worth much more!! I would buy it in a heart beat if all this is true!
most of the paint is original but I can see it's had a few repairs at the body shop at some time. hints of overspray here and there. I can't call it a survivor.
it is rust free. it's been in the high desert all it's life and I checked all the places most common for rust. I have seen rust in square body's that have been around here forever but in Ford's it's almost unseen.
It sounds like 2500-3000 is in the ballpark. I really am not looking for another project but it sounds like if I poke it away in the barn and never get around to it I can probably recover my money down the road. I'm going to take a better look .
