Thinking about making an offer for a 79 f250 ranger
Hello everyone! First post. I'm a chevy man but I go by a 1979 F-250 Ranger with a chrome rollbar a couple times a week and it grabs at my heartstrings each time. I'm 20 years old and it's been sitting in the same tree row for as long as i can remember. I know the who the owner is and I was thinking about making an offer before the end of the year.
It's got 4x4 and I think it has a 4 speed manual tranny but I can't remember for sure. I would guess a 351 engine but also not sure. The box floor is rusted out in places and the tailgate is gone. I don't know why it was parked but I'll find out when I talk to the guy. Only trim missing is the lower drivers door and the tailgate. It's solid brown and a handsome truck.
Any ideas for an offer? Or what these trucks are worth in your area? I was thinking offer around 200 to 250 starting.
I don't REALLY need another project to put in the shop but it would look good next to my 67 chev and 52 Nash
Thanks in advance for the advice.

Sorry don't have any and won't be getting any for a couple weeks since I'm 400 miles away at school atm.
I'm sure it has all the typical rust areas. The front/rear fenders looked good.. not sure about the rocker panels or cab corners/floor. I don't remember any surface rust anywhere. Any other places Fords typically rust? It seems perty straight... no obvious dents.
One thing I forgot to add is it has clearance lights on the roof. Just another one of those eye catching features. lol
Edit: I guess something else to add. Looks like stock tires. All flat and buried in the dirt presumed unsalvageable.

That dvrs side fender has what we call "race trac" trim or chrome, it's a chrome package option. Its comes off but you will have some small mounting holes to fill.
That means that someone has for sure changed that fender assembly altogether. You can buy the rest and add it, but its is $$ if bought as a reproduced kit.
Alot of Ford guys use it to define a paint scheme, pic #2

It actually looks surprisingly rust free (from what I can see in the pictures) Alot of those parts are pretty easy to find. A decent tailgate might be a little more tricky. Those trucks came with either a 300 I6, 351M V8, or a 400. My guess would be either a 351 or a 400. In this area a truck like that would be worth at least around $750 (assuming the motor and drive train could be salvaged)

Assuming you are up north, good vchance since you have snow, it would be worth more.
I am in South Carolina and bought a running 79 F100 with 102k miles from it's second owner (single family) with brank new tires for 600....a week later he bought the wheels and tires back for 200. But my truck needed some rust repair.
Check your local craigslist and check prices for decent trucks. It looks to be in great condition body wise.
I would feel the guy out before you offer 250...might insult him too much for him to make a deal.
