Hazards wiring
I'm reaching out to the forum to ask for help in wiring in my Hazards switch and indicator bulb. The van has been completely rewired, and this is the final step. I labeled 99% of the wiring coming from the switches, signals, bulbs, headlights, solenoid, etc, and have have a couple of wiring diagrams and the shop manual to refer to, but somehow this falls through the cracks. The part of the wiring diagrams that I have don't make it clear for a novice like me. The picture is part of my unsuccessful try, and I may be going about it all wrong - that's where you come in. I believe that I've figured out some of the connections, but at this stage, I'm unsure of everything. Here's what I've incorrectly guessed (incorrectly because I've had no success) - Blue and White is constant hot going in. Light blue leads to the flasher and indicator bulb. Orange and then yellow goes from the indicator bulb to the other terminal of the flasher, then to ground. My guess at this point is that red and green tie into the 4 bulbs that flash (the two tail light turn signal bulbs, and front turn signal bulbs). I've wired it up that way, without tying in the green and red wires, assuming that I should hear the flasher click on and off. (maybe my wiring is way off, or perhaps the red and green wires need to be connected to make the whole system work).
If you can follow this mess, and can lend a hand, I'd be forever grateful. Then, maybe I could get some restful sleep. Thanks!
It's a 1966 Supervan and the hazards switch and indicator is OEM as far as I can tell. Besides the mount hole on the dash for the switch, there's a red lens adjacent to the switch for the indicator bulb to illuminate The aftermarket wiring kit (Kwik Wire) has a powered lead coming from it's own flasher can, but after sending them a picture of the 4 wire switch and indicator lamp, they told me that it looked like a stand alone set up which wouldn't use their powered lead. I purchased a new two terminal flasher can, I have a constant hot wire and a ground all ready to go. Add in the switch itself and the two lead indicator bulb, it should be all that I need. (That is up to tying into the front and rear turn signal bulbs). Another aftermarket kit (American Autowire) has a diagram showing how this switch wires into their set-up (photo above). They leave you hanging when it comes to what wire does what, so unless you are working with their harness, you have to figure it out.
