I have a 68 ranger F100 and I am looking at the JDM lower suspension front and rear. I bought my truck with a lot of unknowns, so can I use a newer suspension front kit that will fit? My friends have said to find a newer Ford f150 (84-up) and use the the brakes, and suspension because they don't have the kingpins?.. I did notice that JDM does have kits for the lightning, so would it be better to go to the junk yard and get brakes/spindle and whatever else goes with the suspension? It looks like the JDM drop kits all use the original springs and buckets for alignment purposes, so I could go to LMC or just buy stock springs and shocks. I have also heard that people are putting heavier duty springs(f250/350) do help with roll and better/stiffer suspension, any info on that either?
THANKS.. I am on a budget and if I could do fabrication, I would go with it or a mustang II F/E. It seems like a lot of trucks are going with the DJM suspension upgrade, but just wanted to know if I it was better to go with a newer 80's I-beam w/o the king pin, and maybe even bigger disc brakes. Mine does have discs, but Im sure its between 67-73 because it has the kingpin w/ the spindle.. I know I can find a newer f150 with the I beam set up at the junk yard, but didn't know if its any better than the suspension that I already have. I have a 351w, but its from a 84 cruiser, so it might have actually came from a crown vic..since I was told that that was the only thing that came with that motor in that year(VIN) and the Transmission is a C-6 with a shift kit, so its definitely strong enough..
I have the DJM kit front and rear, 1979 F150 front disk brakes, as well as Cal-Tracs in the rear. I think it's the simplest/ cheapest way to go. It handles better, just don't expect it to handle like a race car! Good luck!
HEY THANKS 68MURC!! I don't want a race truck, but I definitely want it to handle better than the stock. Just curious, does the 79 still have king pins or do you still use the same DJM kit as the older 67-72? Did you go with a heavier spring? BTW, I loved my 68 Merc...even if it was a cougar.. that thing was fun!

These trucks still had king pins in 79. The DJM kit fits these trucks from 1965-1979, I think. Swapping the dentside spindles is a great way to get disk brakes on the front of your truck. I ordered the MOOG progressive rate springs that folks here have recommended, but I don't have a part number handy...
