Yes you're correct. It looked to me like the green wire came out of the end and looped back into the connector in a closed circuit.
Ok. So find those two green/red wires that are in the truck now, and connect them together. You could simply use a crimp spade female and male connectors like below. If they are too short and won't come together, then lengthen one of the wires somehow, the easiest would be a short piece of wire butt spliced to one of the green/red wires to make it longer.
If I remember correctly, you have other wires that are hanging loose going to nowhere. Just tape the ends. You can put a little tape around your new connection for the green/red, and after testing and making sure things are working, gather the whole thing together and neatly wrap it in tape to keep the weather out.
