Question pine pitch

Yep, that dastardly tree goo that uses its sonar to find youre vehicle. I have a big ol glob on my hood. I only noticed it when I was washing it last weekend. Well I took a finger to it, and got some of it off. I looked at it today, its now a white smear on my paint about a half dollar in size. How do I get this stuff off?? I dont want to damage the paint, or have it start to crack by it sitting there long. All comments welcome.

Have you tried Bug & Tar remover on it?

I use Gunk Bug & Tar remover to deal with this gift of mother nature. If the sap has dried wet a paper towel with remover and let it set on the area for a few (3-5) min. Rubbing lightly with a towel similarly moistened can take a glob off but remove as much as you can first using the edge of something like a credit card.

Ive never heard of it. Should most auto stores (napa, autozone, etc) carry it? Is it an abrasive?

It is availlable at wally world, part stores, and the K. If the store has a auto section you will find it with the cleaners and waxes. And no it is not abrasive. It dissolves the sap.

Get some type of Cleaner Wax in a bottle. That other stuff is only good for bugs and "hot patch" road tar. I hate pine trees...

I don't know how to remove the pine pitch from your truck....but I do know it burns like crazy. Works good to get campfires going.

From: I'm lost somewhere in NJ -- can someone please find me?!?!?!?
Just make sure you use some wax after you hit with bug & tar. Some of the new formulas actually have a wax incorporated! Reason is that regular bug & tar dissolves similar to a degreaser, and removes anything it can -- including wax. If you don't wax over it, you're leaving a vulnerable & unprotected spot.

Lighter fluid might work too -- try it in a small spot & see how it goes first. Again, don't forget a layer or two of wax afterwards.

BTW, yes Bug & Tar is available at any car care center. Even supermarkets by me sell it in the automotive aisle.

I used kerosine on an old Dodge Dart i bought many years ago that had sat under a pine tree for a year or so. It worked very well.

Rub lightly man! Otherwise you'll haze up the whole area it's on. Hopefully you found it soon because if it hardens you'll practically need a chisel to get it off. I would soak a very clean towel with bug and tar and work on it slow.

If it's on glass it comes right off with a razor. That's why it hardly ever hits the glass. Try not to park under pitch trees when it's hot -
