Angry Rodent Control

Moderator: If this belongs elswhere, my apologies. Please move it if so. I think my question is specific to '67-'72 trucks.

I am having trouble figuring out how to keep mice (very small, field-type) out of my truck. It is a '71 F-250 C/S, no A/C. No appreciable rust through anywhere, just a little surface rust. No holes in the firewall, I made sure I plugged 'em all. Still, the little rascals are getting in. THey love to get on top of the intake and eat acorns, but they are getting in the cab and I don't wan't them moving in. I put some "D-Con" in there a couple of days ago, but I will have to wait and see if the little suckers don't die in my truck . Could be a smelly deal.
Any ideas how they are getting in? Maybe the cowl vent drains (which I just cleared out 3 months ago).

Thanks, this is driving me nuts!

I'm assuming this truck is in storage or not being driven often. When I had my '68 in my dad's barn for a winter I put a bunch of moth ***** on the interior floor and under the seat. I closed up the exhaust pipe and put a piece of trash bag over the carb and put the air cleaner back on over it. For some reason those little critters love to make nests in aircleaners.

I got my 60 caddy convert. out of its winters rest once and they had filled the heater box with cotton out of the seats. I didn't realize it right away and I also didn't realize the heater blower was on low. Then smoke started coming out of the defrosters. Well they had built their nest up against the resistor. By the time I got the blower motor off I had a huge smoldering wad of cotton in my heater.
After that I used some mouse poison that Moorman's feed sold. I just put a bag by each tire and they never got in it again.

I know, I don't drive it a lot, but at least twice a week. I don't park it in the same place either.......doesn't seem to help.
Putting the poison by the tires sounds like a good idea, I'll have to try that one .

I would drive it more, but gas here is $2.04/gal. now, a few weeks ago it was $2.26/gal. ! Not good when you only get 13mpg.....

WELCOME TO MY WORLD

The only thing I can suggest is to get yourself a couple of Y addapters and a few extra garden hoses............

About the spiders, I want to know to. I feel like I'm driving a giant spider web they crawl up all the windows as I'm driving (note: they are no where to be found until I start driving then they suddenly appear)

While they dont "bother me" I've had a few guests in the vehicle (namely my girlfriend) who dont like them at all...and I was a little annoyed when one tried sharing my pizza the other day.

Or one hose and some friends with baseball bats, Rick. Oh yeah, mice. A hyper active rat terrier? On second thought, saw electric mouse zappers somewhere. Vermin ride the lightning when it enters the trap. Pricey but worth a look.

Ugh I hate spiders. Black Widow and Brown Recluse are two very good reasons. The latter being particularly nasty. A cold winter is a great thing.

I am not alone...Spiders love to put up webs in my mirror brackets, and they web from the truck to other cars in the driveway. I usually try to ignore it, but this thread is just interesting...
For mice, I have used Bounce fabric softener. They don't seem to like it...
