I'm doing my ball joints at the moment, it's not too bad a job, there's some good how to's on YouTube & a couple of not so good ones! I've had to buy a ball joint press & an 1 5/16" socket for the lower joints but I'll have these for next time. The only thing that didn't want to come apart was getting the axle shaft out with the seal stuck in place. Most of the how to's said use a brass drift to knock it out, it wouldn't move, then I saw one that used a large pry bar between the end of the axle case & the back of the u/j yoke, that moved it.
I felt that their was some movement in the joints as I could feel a clonk when braking, I'd jacked it up & tried to find the play but it wasn't evident until I got a long bar under the tyre whilst the truck was supported under the leaf springs, then you could see the lift in the joints.
