As for the 4x4 conversion, I did not know that but it will have to be someone else's project.
got the.sound proofing and the carpet/seatbelts from the 92 in tonight
kinda turning into a build thread
As others have said, nope, not a cb unit. Without knowing the motor setup in the 82 it was just a guess - that's where the factory one in my truck is located and the camo truck looked like a prime candidate to have a cb
Great, I get the rare and obsolete and yet impossible to repair system. Sadly, someone else thought the same thing and it has been mostly deleted under the hood. There is a big bundle of wires with only 1 or 3 used and I was a bit perplexed on a carb motor. I will have to see what I can remove unless there is a reason to keep it.
Brings me to my next question...
I have the rear tank loose and I can get it part of the way out of the bottom but just not quite. I assume it comes out somehow but am I missing some trick or is it need a little gentle but forceful persuasion?
It looks like it wants to come but just can not the lip over the frame rail totally but it is SUPER frustratingly close at certain angles. Back first or front first or wiggle till it comes???
What motor is actually in the 82? I don't think that's ever been said. Some of these guys may know based on the computer (or at least what it was stock) but like others, Ive never seen one before.
The 82 has a 5.8 sticker on it and the motor seems to be consistent with that. I was told it was a 351w "roller" motor and was not original.
The valve covers have 6 bolts and it seems to be a 351w but I have not positively confirmed that yet.
The bolt on the waterpump seems easily accessible and I was always told that was a quick and dirty way to kinda tell with a bit of accuracy.
I will pull block code as soon as I deal with the profuse oil leaks from the valve covers and ???? but starting with the valve covers. I put new gaskets on them and they leak worse so I have to suspect the pressed covers themselves are probably a bit warped.
I am looking for a set of aluminum ones so I can resolve that leak before I explore for more. Plus the burned smoke gives me a headache if I drive it too much at this point.
Gonna go after the gas tank again after the kids go down I hope
Yep the uncommon EECIII ECU. We had a discussion about the EECIII system not long ago on the forum. It is a bit of an orphan system.
'
If the engine has been swapped then chances are the EEC III system has been replaced with a conventional DSII system. Pop the dist cap off and dist cap and rotor looks like below then the EEC III system is still functional.
If your 82 doesnt have intermittent wipers, you'd probably want to pull the switch and relay out of the donor. I did that conversion on my '82 F100 in about 10 minutes.
Thought I should update this a bit, Interior is all in and I am super happy with it.
I took the carpet, seats and headliner our of the 92, I had to find a bullnose in the Junkyard with capt chairs and steal the bases. even with that it was a tiny bit of fab to get the new seats on old bases. (had to drill a couple holes but not really bad at all. I also had to melt a hold in the plastic for the seat popper. Its all dirty from putting the panels back in so it needs a vacuum but other than some surface rust on some of the metal trim pieces its pretty good.
I decided to take the fuel tank filler tubes from the 92 as I am missing gas caps and I have the rear tank out anyway
