I'm trying to verify which CPS is best for my '97 F250HD w/7.3L PS. I have read that the F4TZ-12K073-C (blue) is the best one but multiple sources say it won't fit my truck but I have also seen that it will. The same sources say the F4TZ-12K073-B (gray) one will fit but supposedly they are not as good. Not sure if the reason is because 1997 was the changeover year for the F250 but mine is the older style. I don't know if they are actually different in length going into the engine but I sure want to make sure that I have proper clearance to the cam. Thanks, Matt
The newest and best is dark gray with a purple o-ring. You can get this directly from Ford, International, Riffraff Diesel and probably some other vendors. There are probably a half dozen different versions out there on the market, don't skimp out with the older versions. Way back when a shimming kit was available to measure cam to end of CPS but nobody does that anymore. Instead the CPS was improved internally (electronically) to eliminate the difference's in length. Original CPS was black and is the best of the best but no longer available, anywhere.
