Welcome to FTE!

There are differences in the grilles, front parking lights, and gravel pans. (Sometimes called splash pans." There are also different bolt patterns, but the holes are hidden behind the grille, so drilling new ones won't show. There is also a difference in the air deflectors (the flat panels the grille bolts to) but the '56 deflectors will work with any '53-'56 grille. The '56 grille must have the '56 deflectors.

The '53 grille must have the '53 gravel pan and the '53/'54 parking lights.
The '54 grille must have the '54 gravel pan and the '53/'54 parking lights.
The '55 grille must have the '55/'56 gravel pan and the '55 parking lights.
The '56 grille must have the '55/'56 gravel pan and the '56 parking lights.

In your case, you just need to change the grille and the parking lights.

I'm ok with sticking with the 56 grille. I need more of a bolt of with not much modifying if I can. I'm not very good at modifying stuff like I said I'm knew to this. It's not all factory either. Its actually sitting on a crown vic frame.

Welcome to FTE

The 55 grill on a 56 is truly bolt on. If you are new to the Iffy Fords (53-56, aka Mid Fifties) I’d suggest getting a MidFifty catalog. You can use their website Home - Mid Fifty F-100 Parts but the paper copy is easier to find stuff in sometimes. And if you do change out your grill sell it here. There’s always someone looking for grills.

It’s not uncommon for the backs of the grills to have rust. The no holes grill means the 56 was a straight 6 originally. Chrome grill means it was a Custom Cab, white grill is a standard cab. Neither cab is physically different the Custom Cab just has some “Custom” amenities.
