Question Tail light question

I am putting new tail lights on my 1954 ford truck no turn signals. They are the round style I purchased from Dennis Carpenter with 2 wires a green and black. I have original wiring harness and coming off the stop light switch i wired green to green black to black. When i turn on headlights they work but not when i step on brake lights. I had a new pressure switch on it so bought a low pressure one but still no brake light. Am I wiring it correctly. Thanks for any help.

Is this how you have them wired? Do you have a good ground, that is important. The housing acts as a ground. When I added a trailer hitch, I had to run a ground wire for everything to work properly.

Have you checked your pressure switches to see if power is going through them when the brake pedal is depressed? Tracing the power source would be the first step. The tail light assemblies are grounded through the body, so one would think if they are grounded enough for the tail lights to work, the brake side should work, as well.

Is your truck still 6 volt? The reason I ask is because I used the same tail lite on my 12 volt 56 and since the tail lites came with 6 volt bulbs they wouldn't work correctly. The running lites were real bright and the stop element wouldn't handle higher voltage.

No sir the truck has been changed to 12 volts. If i try to add a ground do i piece
1 end of ground wire to tail light housing and other end to frame. Thanks .

Yes, That should get you your ground. Since you are 12V, I would be less inclined to think it is a ground issue though.
It won't hurt to try that, you can just hold a jumper wire in place while someone presses the brakes to see. Try to find a bare spot on the frame so you aren't trying to ground through paint.

Use a continuity tester on the switch when someone is pressing on the brake pedal. Good luck, Jag
