Just got to wondering...does anyone know if there is actually a cabin air filter in a 2001 Explorer Sprot-Trac? My old black beauty with 211K and runs great deserves a new one if it's equipped.
I am pretty sure it does. Check for a panel under the glovebox with 4 or 5 screws. Pull that panel and look up in there. If it's got one, that's where it should be.
Park the 2001 Ford Explorer Sport Trac and turn the engine off.
Move to the front passenger side seat and locate the cabin air filter housing cover directly under the glove box. Five screws are connecting the cover to the bottom of the glove box. The glove box does not have to be removed.
Remove the five screws by turning each screw counter clockwise with the Phillips head screwdriver. Lay the screws in the driver side seat.
Pull the cover down and place the cover in the driver side seat also. Look up inside of the cabin air filter housing and pull the cabin air filter downward by the small handle on the front of the filter. Make note of the direction of the arrow on the side of the filter. The arrow represents the air flow from the outside of the vehicle to the inside of the vehicle.
Push the new cabin air filter into the housing with the arrow facing the correct direction.
Position the cover back onto the bottom of the glove box and screw the five screws back in. Tighten screw down tight with the Phillips head screwdriver.
