i just finished a long repair that took long because i had to wait to get paid and wait for parts. a few months sitting near tampa florida. i replaced the oil cooler and two injectors, the radiator also........the turbo was stuck till i drove down the street and back. i heard it break loose. its sticking a little. the problem is its making a loud sandpaper like sound only when i press the gas and sticks sometimes. will it clear up thru daily driving or is there something i can do? do i need to crack it open and clean it? will i need a new turbo?
Anytime I have a turbo off it comes apart. It's not hard or time consuming.
If you know there is a problem with the unison ring sticking than the turbo has to come off and disassembled, cleaned, & reassembled to know its cured when you're done.
It should be for a few days. A prolong repair of a stuck unison ring can result in excessive wear of the actuator pin hole and excessive or low boost, depending where it sticks and when.
Are you sure it's the unison ring making noise and not a wore bearing and the blades are hitting the housing or something?
I don't know what you mean it sounds like sandpaper.
Are you sure you don't have a boost or up-pipe or Y-pipe leak?
