I eventually would like to create a build thread for my truck, but I have questions about the best way to do this. My main concern is that progress on my truck will be slow, as I don't have a lot of extra money to throw at it. Should I go ahead and create a thread now, showing the current condition of my truck along with my ideas and plans for the future? Or should I wait, and document as much as I can, and post a bunch of things at once? I really want it to be an entertaining, and informative thread. I've read some really nice build threads where it seems they've got updates almost weekly, and I can't keep that pace. Is it acceptable to have a build thread that may only have 2-3 big updates a year? Also most of the work I'll be doing will not be ground breaking and new, just me trying to fix up my truck. I would love your all's advise and input on this one, especially since you all are the ones I'm trying to entertain.Thanks.
You can do it a little at a time. There's no time or minimal speed limits on here! I've had my 69 for two years now and I haven't done anything in a year (at least) .All kinds of things come up during our lives that have to be done before our trucks. And most of us aren't rich enough to buy all new parts, at one time, for a total rebuild. Plus the cost of taking it to a shop for body and paint isn't too cheap either. I think most people are very excited about starting to work on a truck project, when we first get the truck, and we want to get on it "right now"! But you have to take a step back, take a breath, and plan it out. Like "Baha" has said a hundred times on this forum. "Do it at the speed of right". You don't want to work on something for 16 hours straight and find out you left out a critical part, or forgot to torque a bolt to spec, when it quits running after 5 minutes.
Thanks Gary for the pep talk. I do think I'll start a build thread here soon. At the very least it'll allow me to keep track of my progress on a medium that will be around for a long time. I won't have to worry about a hard drive crash deleting all of my work. I'm certainly not building a show truck, but I like to show it off all the same. I'm still open to ideas and suggestions. Thanks.
I would start a post now and post up what your plans are. Even how you may go about doing it and someone may have a better way they did it, you never know.
Also build it your way as it is your truck.
As said do it at your speed there is no time limit other than what you put on it. So what if you don't meet it this is not one of them dumb TV shows with all the drama.
I started a post before I even bought my truck, 81 F100 flare side just to get a little information on it.
I bought it Dec 2015 and what was just going to be a get it safe for the street turned into a cab off frame rebuild. I have done all the work my self and there is a lot of metal work done.
Taken 7/4/18 hope to paint it spring time.

Thanks. I feel This site will be very helpful in helping me not get discouraged. I want to get some more pictures of my truck, but I hope to start my build thread during my weekend.
Yes this site has been a lot of help to me, not so much how to do something but mostly for needed parts for my project.
I have my own web site that I host my pictures from. So far I have 480 pictures of the project & counting and have a bunch of the parts truck also.
Now you ask why pictures of the parts truck also? I was going to use the wiring from it and took pictures of where things went under the hood along with other things.
This helps when you start putting the truck back together a year or more later.
And the big one WE like to see pictures of what others are doing on their projects.
Some times you see something someone else did on their project and you want to do the same to yours. Also look in the other truck areas to see what they are doing it does not have to be from your year truck area.
You seen the CV swaps and want to do that.
On mine it was duel tanks on a flare side, never an option on the flare side, and have it look factory stock. All parts came from the parts truck.
Did you see the filler door on the back of the fender in the above picture?
Have fun with the build

I'm in the same boat. Going to take a long time, budget limited. I've been holding off on a build thread but compiling pictures.
The 'after the fact' threads are more fun to read as you can see the end result quick.
but
a few years from now your project may be done and others can go through it all in a single sitting and see the finished result.
I made an intermediate thread of minor fixes and upgrades I've done over the last 2 years, but it's not a 'build thread' exactly.
Start one! It doesn't really matter how long it takes or how often you post. I've found that it's a very good way to document your build as well as get advice and show it off. Mine doesn't get near as much traffic as I'd like, but that's probably my fault lol.
As the others have told you, start the build thread now. Add idea's as they come up, lots of pictures (we love pictures). I have two or three threads going on my 1971 F250 300 L6. You will get top notch build information from this great group of builders. "Jump in the waters worm".
