On the passenger side I can see this green cover(the one behind he coil, not the valve cover). I can also see some kind of silicone sealant. I’m sure that should be a gasket of some sort. To get this cover off, I would remove the three nuts. Do I need to drain oil or coolant from the engine first? What would this gasket be called so I can order a new one. The engine is a straight 6 215. It says “Cost Clipper 6” on it
That is a heat riser of "butterfly" type. It should be free to turn. The weight keeps the valve closed at low engine speed and little exhaust flow.
Nicely preserved decals, BTW. Careful when you clean them.
No need to drain any fluids when you remove that side cover.
I also need to replace the ignition switch. How do intensive the chrome bezels and switch. When I get the new switch, it looks like I also need to get a new key core that goes into the switch or can I just get one complete unit? Is there a a special tool to remove the bezels?
In the above picture, u can see the blower switch. It feels like a low and a high pull. The book shows four pulls a heater switch, temp control, air control and defroster control.
Book says three types of heaters were used but only has two listed- a fresh air heater and a recirculating type.
Mine does not have a plenum chamber. It looks to be more of a cube shape.
three heaters for 53
the one you have was installed by the dealer as your truck has a heater delete plate on the firewall. The plate was only installed on heater delete trucks
second heater is a 2 control ( blower and defrost) recirculating heater meaning it reheats air from inside cab
third heater is the one you have pictured. It is a deluxe fresh air heater 4 control ( air, temp, blower, defrost) it utilizes the louvers on the side of the cowl for fresh air to be heated

Anyone know what that green side cover is called? I need to order the gasket for it.
