Tipped on side, blew smoke, rough idle, no power?

Last friday I was taking some friends fishing in my bronco, 351m, 1981, c-6, and I accidently got high centered in a ditch after some Chevy cut me off. I was really stuck was real close to rolling the bronco down a hillside about 20' , any ways I had it running while negotiating what to do without rolling it, then it started blowing black smoke out of the exhaust, I shut it off, then after i got it out it still smoked for about 2 minutes then was fine and ran well. Then on saturday while stoped at a stop sign it starts idling real rough, also it has no power now. I checked a couple of things, plugs are fine, checked out the cat, took it to my auto shop today and my teacher tried a couple of things but no luck. Any ideas as to what may have happened or how to fix it? Any ideas are greatly appriciaded because i am out of any. Thanks

Gummed rings, are you getting wicked blow-by? Stuck valve, it it running rough?

Try pulling the plug wires off the running engine one at a time, listen for the idle speed to drop, replace it and pull another. If you find one that doesn't make the idle drop, you might have found a stuck valve.

The black smoke was from excess fuel, probably flooding with the carb tilted too far.

The rough idling/power problems sound like something is messed up in the carb (float problem maybe?).

What carb are you running, and have you checked it out since the tilting incident?

What can I say but, I agree. A carb works in one position, up and down, when you start to lean, the float goes crazy. If you're really into extreme off-roading then may I suggest (hehe i wish i could afford, but im in HS) the Holley Fuel Injection system. Best of luck with your jewel

great site

Great site, Ive learned alot already, I just bought a 83 f150 w/ 351 auto. It has been sitting for a couple of years. It was running rough and popping under load. I thought it was water in fuel in dumped in fuel dry and filled the tank with premium. It helped alot but when I took it out on the hway to blow it out it began to smoke bad and thought I blew a main seal or something ( im not a wrechhead yet) anyways it runs fine now but smoke out the driver side when it warm up. and it blows oil out the oil filler cap in the valve cover. Im not sure if it is a stuck valve or a hole in the piston or what. Any suggestion as to were to start would be appreciated. I bought the truck to learn on but this was a bit faster than i was planning for.

Duh. I see what happened now. You posted a reply to a very old post.

The best way to get help for a specific question is to start a new thread.
