Cold Radiator Cap / Other Issues

I’ve finally got my van back! It’s been living at my mothers for the last month as she was using it to move and tonight we finally met halfway and I drove the van home.

Some things I’ve learned on that drive...
  • The Check Engine Light does work. It also came on and turned off around 20 times during the 45 minute journey.
  • The van would cruise 65/70, but as soon as I let off the gas it would seem to bog a bit when reapplying gas. It’s a 351w with a c6 and an OD unit.
  • Lastly, my girlfriend was following behind me and she seemed to notice a coolant smell coming from my van. I checked the fluids when I stopped for fuel and I noticed the radiator cap is cool to the touch. Temp gauge seems fine.

New radiator, radiator cap, trans cooler, thermostat, cap, rotor, plugs, wires and temp sensor. I checked the radiator cap, it appears to be fine, the radiator is full. I pressure tested the entire system right before I let my mother borrow it and it held at 14/15 PSI.

Any ideas?

Maybe the smell was from her vehicle?

Was your heater output as hot as you would expect? Will you be pulling codes for review?

She drives a 2017/2018 Mazda6 with about 30,000 miles on it. It was definitely coming from the van, you can smell it when you get out of it. Ahhhh the sweet smell of hot coolant.

The van has always had pretty decent heat, but my brother had driven it halfway to meet me, then I had taken over driving it home, so I'm not sure how it was heating up. I'll be pulling the codes tonight, via a few tutorials I saw online.
