Starter driver bendix

The starter driver on my truck (1959 F350 223 T98) has gone bad. I had been using the starter to turn over the engine occasionally while I hunted down and fixed an electrical issue in my ignition system. During my testing the stater got jammed up. I pulled it starter and the drive was stuck open. I used the wire wheel on bench grinder to spin it and applied preasure.. (I tried both directions, just in case) and I couldn't get it to close.

So I started looking for a replacement. I looked at all the corporate stores. AutoZone, Napa, Oriellys, CarQuest. They all, not only showed different starter drives from the one on my starter, they all slowed different starter drives from each other when I searched by year/ make/ model/ engine. The only site that actually showed the same one as mine, oddly, was Amazon (seller: DB Electrical)

This leads me to a couple of questions.
1) Is the starter drive on my truck, the original one that came with the truck?
2) If not, which one is the original?
3) Are they interchangeable?
4) NumberDummy, you got a part number for me?

If your starter is the original (1957/62), it uses the HUGE Bendix inertia starter drive (see 11350 in pic below).

The drive uses a roll pin to retain it to the shaft of the armature. To access the roll pin, the drive must be unwound by hand.

To reinstall it, the drive must be wound back up and this takes very strong hands.

So, what do you need, the drive, the roll pin or both?

Yeah, I need the whole assembly. The one in your diagram is the one that Napa lists as correct for my truck. But not the one that's in my truck.

I actually just checked Dennis Carpenter and they list the one that is in my truck now as the correct one.

I really wonder if they are interchangeable.

This is the one Dennis Carpenter lists, it's the same as the one in my truck.

223/292 is the same, but A/T is different than M/T
