The 12volt.Solutions looks like it is as easy as it gets. But $90?
Can you do the same thing by tying (GN/OG to YE/GN) and put a 20k ohm resistor between (GN and BU/WH)?
I'm not sure so just asking? It would be a lot cheaper and pretty easy?
There are how to’s on YouTube where guys do this and it’s cheap. Under $10. The BD kit is nice, plug and play, and adjustable
So, I have the BD kit. I went this route so that I can adjust the rpm and two, I can switch it off so it does not automatically go into high idle every time I stop and set the parking brake. As I am new to the 6.7, what RPM are you folks using for a situation like sitting on the side of the road in winter waiting for the road to open? I have spent countless hours sitting off the I-80 between Rock Springs and Laramie over the years and while I never had an issue with the 7.3 and I could just let it idle all night, I am adding the BD to bump the RPM up a bit and I was thinking of running it in the 1,100-1,200 RPM range. Anyone out there know the best high idle RPM for the 6.7 to keep everything working properly?
I don’t have the high idle kit but I did do the resistor mod which gives me 1200rpm. In -40C, 1200 rpm not only keeps the truck at normal operating temps, it does a great job of warming the truck up. I don’t see a need for anything higher. I idle at least 5hrs per day at work in some of the most extreme cold temperatures that most wouldn’t see.
Thanks for the replies,
I was thinking 11-1200 as a ballpark. I see one of the systems run at 1400 but that is too high for what I need. I should only need it when the interstate is closed but I have read so many horror stories about how sensitive these new systems are that it makes it difficult to weed through all the opinions. I told my wife that I will just take the 7.3 until I figure out this 6.7.
Mattymax - I plan on leaving mine switched off as I don’t want it to activate every time I pull into the driveway and set my parking brake. I will probably mount it on the drivers side or maybe in one of the console compartments so it’s out of the way.

With what you are describing, it seems like the resistor mod will work for you. $0.30 mod. Wire it to an upfitter switch and if you don’t have the upfitter switch on, the high idle will not engage with the parking brake on. Might as well save some money.

I almost did the resistor mod but I like the plug and play of the BD and the fact that you can adjust it to whatever RPM. I will keep mine set and always on. If I need to use it I’ll set the brake.
