yeah, I asked right after i received the distributer and no responce. let me ask u this: what will happen if it needed the resistor, what should I b looking for? will it burn the new wire ? will it burn the ignition switch? What should I b on the lookout for?
What you're looking at is whether the current (amperes) through the primary circuit will exceed spec and burn something up.
The ballast or resistor does reduce the voltage, but it's the current reduction (heat) that is the actual purpose. You can get an idea by measuring the ohms resistance of the coil primary winding. Then use Ohm's law to figure how many amperes are flowing. A true HEI didn't use a ballast resistor, as I understand it the current was limited by the use of transistors. I would be surprised if the counterfeits have this feature though.
