Hi Guys! Here is another video for the repair archives!
So recently, my 95 F150 failed Pennsylvania vehicle inspection. One of the culprits was my power steering box. The inspector said the steering was too loose and he failed me. So I ordered a new steering box and got to work. Here's a video, showing how to replace that sucker. Enjoy!
Wow, never heard of a vehicle failing inspection for a worn steering box. Geeze! I've replaced them in a few vehicles and it does make a difference though.

You and me both! I couldn't believe it! I just about figured they were only checking suspension joints, tires, brakes, and safety equipment. BUT the steering difference is UNREAL! I was blown away about how great the steering felt! If I ever bought another OBS, I think replacing the steering would be on my first replacement/tune up list.
Too much free play when centered? I would have adjusted the screw before replacing the gearbox.
He just said it had too much play. I even asked him what the solution would be and he knowing I do my own repairs said I needed a new box. So I trust his judgment. However, inspector are sticklers. If they don't see a new part, they would not have let me pass.

Too much play is more than vague. If you took out the play by adjusting the set screw and took it back what could he say when the steering was tighter? If he wouldn’t pass it then I’d be going somewhere else.

I agree, definitely too vague and I could have argued my case of tightening the screw and taking the play out. I guess, I'll never know. Although my truck is at 224,000 miles. So I'm not entirely disappointed that I replaced it.
The last one I did was on the ‘94. I tightened the pitman arm puller, let it sit, tightened it some more and repeated serveral times. Eventually I heard this very loud bang when the arm popped off the steering gear.
