Question Steering box /power assist

I just bought a 76 f-250 "highboy" frame and drivetrain. The only problom with it is that the steering box is mess up. I'm looking for a rebuilder kit. Also can anyone tell me how to hook up the hoses for the power-*** to the power steering pump. thank you

While you're working on the steering it might not be a bad idea to just switch to a power steering box from a 78-79. This will save a lot of hassle over the power assist offered in the older 4x4's.

Exclamation NEW STEERING FOR MY 76 F-250 4x4

I got a steering box off a 79 F-250 4x4 and are starting to put it on the truck, but I could no get the drag link to go to the axle. The tech page said the It a good thing to get a adjustable drag link about 16 inchs. I was wondering if any one knows were I can get on to finsh the steering project.

I do not know about the adjustable drag link, but here is a suggestion and may or may not be correct.

My '76 F150 4x4 had the old "T" style linkage, but what I did is convert it to the newer '78-'79 "Y" style linkage. I did have to replace the pitman arm, but that was necessary anyway as I was installing a 4" lift. I was thinking if you replace all the linkage too, that might be possible. Not sure, so if you get any linkage, measure before removing the old. That way at least you could take it back as a return. Hope this suggestion helps, but again not sure if it is correct for your application.

Good luck...

You can do what I did and go to your local machine shop and have one made. I used chrome molly with 250,000 pound rod ends ,cant remember where I got them but they were nascar approved anyway then drill the taper out of the steering arm and the pitman armand connect them with grade 8 bolts use a left hand thread on one end and a right hand on the other and there you go BUT REMEMBER TO USE QUALITY ON EVERYTHING YOU USE CAUSE YOUR LIFE WILL DEPEND ON IT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I just completed this conversion using a 1979 box,and center link off the same truck. Was a breeze. All I did was cut high spot off the frame, made a 1 1/2 "spacerand drill 4 holes in frame and mounted it up. Now for the tough part, finding a power steering engine mounting bracket, after that buy a pressure hose at advance auto for 79 2x4 .Their short and make for a very clean job.I had a donor truck so this cost me under 20.00 for the hose. Good luck and have a great day

.............What you need is the "Center Link" off a 78-79 , f250 , 4x4 . Probably available thru your local parts house or ...here www.lmctruck.com
part #...45-2418 . It is 14 inches long . I , also ordered the steering stabilizer from the same catalogue ...which is #45-2316 . 800-562-8782 . s.kuteman
