That's more likely. They just don't want the general public messing with it. Like many things on cars today.

I'm not against changing the filter, I just think it isn't worthwhile. If you want to change it, have at it. You won't hurt anything, but you will spend money that doesn't improve the trans. The old filter isn't hurting it unless the trans has already failed.

Yes, I've seen that, too. It doesn't mean I agree with it. I believe that they would have had identical results if they only changed the fluid. Also changing the filter didn't hurt it, nor did it help it.

And that's what I call a transmission flush. https://www.ford-trucks.com/articles...-transmission/

I DO NOT recommend the flushes where they put a solvent in the trans, run it for a while, then change the fluid. I believe those do more harm than good.

And I've had hundreds of thousands of miles of service using my methods.
I did see your signature, and it seems we are more or less on the same page here. I also like to clean the magnet off and the pan needs to be dropped to do that. I guess we weren't exactly talking about the same thing when referring to it as a flush. The home flush idea is fine and I've done that a few times before on a couple vehicles.

Then I think we agree. I'm glad we worked that out.

If in doubt, sample the fluid and have a lab analyze it.

Old myths die hard. It's not easy to convince people that they're wrong, infinitely more difficult with stupid people.

Don't believe everything that you think you know.

After the other fluids are swapped out I'd get on the brake fluid. As it is hygroscopic it can absorb I think it is up to 3% water, that translates into rust inside the brake system. Just bleed the brakes like you would normally with the exception you just keep dumping brake fluid in til it all comes out nice and clear. When I redid the brake system on my truck the old fluid was orange. Not a good sign as that means rust, I will flush my system again in about 4 months.
